Pragyan Ojha transfers to Mumbai Indians from Deccan Chargers

Indian left-arm spinner, Pragyan Ojha, has been transferred to Mumbai Indians from Deccan Chargers for the 2012 IPL Season 5. This transfer took place during the IPL Transfer Window trading, for which the transfer fee was undisclosed. Ojha is the sixth player to switch teams this pre-season transfer window, following Karthik, Sathish, Pietersen, Harmeet Singh, and McDonald.

Ojha has been playing for Deccan Chargers since the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League in 2008. He has taken 62 wickets in 56 matches at an average of 22.19 and an economy rate of 7.08 in his IPL T20 career. He was the leading wicket-taker and Purple Cap winner of the 2010 edition of the IPL.

Mumbai Indians owner, Nita Ambani, said in a statement that they signed Ojha due to his international success and past record in the world arena. She stated, “With a spinner of Pragyan Ojha’s competence, we fortify our bowling department that has won us many matches in the past seasons. Pragyan Ojha is a player of great international repute, and we welcome him with much excitement”.

In addition, Ojha’s performance in the LV County Championship was noteworthy. His 24 wickets in four games helped Surrey gain promotion to Division One.
